It was a black Sunday for the Indian film industry. Bollywood, which has lost some of its finest actors Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, music composer Wajid Khan in recent weeks, faced yet another sad news on Sunday with the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput.
Initial news reports citing police said the actor was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra.
The 34-year old actor was last seen in the movie ‘Chhichhore’ – which dealt with extreme pressures of academic competition. He also appeared in Netflix’s ‘Drive’ movie.
Rajput became a household name for his performance in television series “Pavitra Rishta”. In 2013, he made his Bollywood debut in the critically acclaimed movie ‘Kai Po Che!’, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s best selling book ‘The Three Mistakes of My Life’.
Rajput scaled further heights with ‘MS Dhoni – The untold story’, a movie based on the real life inspiration of former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, catapulted Rajput to further limelight, making him a favourite star for both movie and cricket fans.
Several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to express shock and condolences to the actor’s family and fans.
“He loved me so much…I will miss him so much. His energy, enthusiasm and his full happy smile. May Allah bless his soul and my condolences to his near and dear ones. This is extremely sad….and so shocking!!” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted.
Actor Akshay Kumar said the news about Sushant Singh Rajput has left him shocked and speechless.
“Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless…I remember watching #SushantSinghRajput in Chhichhore and telling my friend Sajid, its producer how much I’d enjoyed the film and wished I’d been a part of it. Such a talented actor…may God give strength to his family 🙏🏻” the Sooryavanshi actor tweeted.
“The news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death is truly sad. What a tragic lossFolded hands Deepest condolences to his family & loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace,” actor Ajay Devgn said.
“This is just so shocking. A wonderful talent. RIP Sushant,” Abhishek Bachchan tweeted.
“Too young and brilliant to have gone so soon,” actress Anushka Sharma said in her condolence tweet, adding, “I’m so sad and upset knowing that we lived in an environment that could not help you through any troubles you may have had. May your soul rest in peace.”
“At this time of immense tragedy, I would request the media to be sensitive towards Sushant’s family and friends. I urge everyone to respect their emotions and let them grieve,” she wrote in another tweet.
The actor’s coming-of-age romantic drama ‘Dil Bechara’, which is based on author John Green’s 2012 novel ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ was scheduled for release on May 8. However, movie releases are stuck due to theatre shutdowns across the country due to Covid-19 pandemic.
