Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi passed away at the age of 74 away on Friday afternoon after suffering two cardiac arrests at a private hospital in Raipur.
Jogi, who was also the first chief minister of the state, was admitted there on May 9 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home. He had since then remained critical and was on ventilator support. He suffered a second cardiac arrest on Wednesday night as well.
A former bureaucrat-turned politician, Jogi served as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh from 2000 to 2003 in the Congress government, after the state came into existence.
In 2016, Jogi parted ways with the Indian National Congress after he and his son got embroiled in a by-election controversy. He then formed Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J).
