Dhanush’s ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ to have theatrical release

Actor Dhanush’s upcoming movie Jagame Thandhiram will release in theatres once the coronavirus situation improves, the filmmakers announced on Friday along with a new poster of the film.

The gangster thriller, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was supposed to release on May 1 but was postponed due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus.

In a tweet post, Y Not Studios, which has bankrolled the movie said, “Coming Soon to Cinemas. After our ‘Jagam’ heals.”

The announcement assumes significance as many movies including Vijay’s Master, which is also waiting for release, are rumoured to be exploring a OTT premier instead of waiting for a theatrical release.

Director Karthik Subbaraj tweeted that, “If not for the Bloody Virus.. Today would be #JagameThandhiramFDFS. Hoping for the Best.”

Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, Jayam Ravi’s Bhoomi and several other small and medium budget movies, scheduled for April and May release, are forced to postpone their release indefinitely due to the theatrical shutdown across the country.

The Dhanush- starrer will also be released in Telugu version titled ‘JagameTantram’.
