Union Home Ministry on Sunday extended the nationwide lockdown till May 31 to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country. It also issued detailed guidelines on measures to be taken by the ministers, government departments, state and Union Territories to contain the Covid-19 in the country upto May 31, 2020.
According to Home ministry guidelines, all domestic and international air flights, metro rail services, schools, colleges and educational institutions, hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services will continue to remain closed during the lockdown period.
Cinema halls, shopping malls, gym, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums will also remain shut till May 31.
“All social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions, other gatherings and large congregations are prohibited,” the order said.
The order also stated that religious places, places of worship shall also be closed to the public.
However, the Centre allowed inter-state and intra-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses with the mutual consent of state / union territories involved.
The Home ministry’s order stated that the delineation of red, green and orange zones will be decided by the respective states / UT governments as per the central government’s parameters.
“The movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 7 PM to 7AM, except for essential activities,” the order stated.
Home ministry order also said that all other activities will be permitted, except those specifically prohibited and added that only essential activities shall be allowed in the containment zones.
Meanwhile, the number of positive coronavirus casses in India is nearing the one-lakh mark. As on 8 AM on Sunday, the total active cases in the country stood at 53,946 with 34,108 cured/discharged cases. The virus have so far claimed 2,872 lives.
