The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is the best institution for higher education, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 released on Thursday. The Institution tops the ranking for the third year in a row.
Union Human Resource Development Minister of Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced the NIRF Indian Rankings for Indian institutes on Thursday through an online address.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi secured second and third place in the overall institution category.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to rank institutions of higher education in India.
The first rankings released in 2016 had four categories (Universities, Engineering, Management and Pharmacy), which has since increased to include overall, colleges, architecture and Law as categories. NIRF 2020 rankings saw participation of 3,800 institutions covering nine categories. ‘Dental’ is placed as a separate category in the ranking list this year.
