Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said that Sikkim is an integral part of India and any errors (related to India’s territorial integrity) cannot be tolerated.
“Sikkim is an integral part of India. Such errors also cannot be tolerated. Advertisement has been withdrawn and action taken against the officer concerned,” Kejriwal tweeted.
The tweets come in the wake of newspaper advertisement by the Delhi Government for enrolment of Volunteers for Civil Defence Corps. The advertisement has erroneously clubbed Sikkim along with neighbouring countries such as Bhutan and Nepal.
In a letter written to the Delhi government, Sikkim chief secretary SC Gupta wrote that the ‘offensive’ advertisement, which is immensely hurtful to the people of Sikkim, be withdrawn immediately.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said a direction has also been given immediately to withdraw the offensive advertisement.
Noting that a senior officer of Directorate of Civil Defence (HQ) has been suspended with immediate effect for publishing an advertisement, Baijal said there is ‘zero tolerance for such gross misconduct’.
