Thala Ajith donates Rs. 1.25 crore for Coronavirus relief funds

Actor Ajith Kumar has donated Rs. 1.25 crore towards the Coronavirus relief funds set up by the Central and State Government as well as film union association. According to media reports, the Viswasam actor donated Rs. 50 Lakhs each to PM-CARES Fund and to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and another Rs. 25 Lakhs to Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI). 

He has also donated Rs. 2.5 Lakhs for PRO Union. 

The nation-wide lockdown has rendered thousands of film technicians, mostly daily wagers, jobless overnight as shootings were suspended following the government announcement. Ajith’s next project Valimai directed by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor was also suspended. 

On March 23, FEFSI Union President RK Selvamani made an appeal to the Tamil film fraternity to support the daily wage workers who are affected by the shooting cancellations. 

On Saturday, actress Nayanthara donated Rs 20 Lakhs to FEFSI. Earlier, Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth donated Rs. 50 lakh rupees to buy rice bags for nearly 15,000 registered FEFSI workers. Actor Vijay Sethupathi and Sivakarthikeyan also donated Rs. 10 lakhs each to FEFSI while Suriya donated Rs. 10 lakhs along with his actor-father Sivakumar and brother Karthi.

Film shoots have been halted till April 14 due to coronavirus-led lockdown.
