After two months of lockdown l, 17 large industrial units, including units in Guindy and Ambattur Industrial estate, falling within the Chennai police limits are allowed to operate from Monday (May 25).
As per the a Tamil Nadu government order, industrial units will be allowed to operate with 25 per cent workforce.
The Industrial estates have also been asked not to employ workers from containment zones or those with Covid-19 symptoms.
The government order also said that the industrial units should follow strict safety and sanitation measures like thermal screening of workers, ensure all workers are using face masks, two times disinfection of the workplace and avoid employing workers above 55 year age group among others.
The Industrial estates in Guindy and Ambattur has several hundred micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) employing thousands of workers. These Industrial clusters caters to leading OEM manufacturers in automobile and other industries.
